The Beastie Boys’ Ad-Rock Buys a Really Green House for $1.7M

Posted on September 18, 2023

Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock) of the Beastie Boys purchased a $1.73 million home in South Pasadena, Calif. According to the Los Angeles Times, the house was originally listed in June for $1.688 million, and the sale closed in August for $42,000 more than the asking price.

It’s a 2,400-square-foot Craftsman-style house which dates back to 1912, and features include a fireplace, an eat-in kitchen, three bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. There are also fruit trees on the quarter-acre lot. The listing was held by Michele Downing of Pacific Union International.

In addition to the new home purchase, Horovitz recently released a new book with bandmate, Mike Diamond, called Beastie Boys Book. Among other things, the book details how the band wasted “so much f—ing money” making their sophomore album, Paul’s Boutique, and also how they got played for Donny Osmond.

“What he had just said to us, the multiplatinum fight-for-your-right-to-party guys, is … Forget about the record you just spent the past couple years making. Forget that you made a huge and bold move severing ties with Rick [Rubin], Russell [Simmons], Rush, and Def Jam. Forget all this life-changing shit that’s happening to you as a band, people, and friends. Because … Donny Osmond’s new record is just a little more important than yours,” Horovitz recalled. “Just go back, make another record, and we’ll see what happens when that happens. Everything’s gonna be fine.”

As for his new digs, you can peep the photos in the gallery.
