ABOUT SOA MATTRIX
Born in Diepkloof in Soweto, Producer and DJ Soa Mattrix (born Mandla Mashakeni) developed a fondness for music very young.
He comes from a musical family from his father’s side, a renowned guitarist within his community. Soa’s days at Diepdale High School got him involved in both filming and musical activities.
Although his shine came in the Amapiano era, he first took a shine in house music production and melody progression.
He became a hit-producing artist when his top charting song titled “Uthando” with a local vocalist was well received and turned into an Amapiano anthem.
The evidence of this was when the tune stayed in the leading charts for the entire 5 months.
This followed the release of his own debut album titled “Sounds of Africa” in 2019 which he described as a dream come true to his career.
In 2021, Soa Mattrix successfully teamed up with one of the influential producers in the country, DJ Maphorisa to release a very successful joint project titled Tintswalo.
The extra popular tracks there include Umama Akekho, Idlozi, and Dropline, among others. Its total streaming of only around the content exceeded over 5 million. So far, he has worked with several South African celebrated artists like Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, Sir Trill, Nkosazana Daughter, Emotionz DJ, Soulful G, etc.
“Mina Name did not only sit on all radio stations’ top playlists but it also was played in all the clubs by Club DJs pulling force to get the crowd on the dance floor. Its YouTube streams alone exceeded 2 million views in less than 2 months and currently sits on over 11 million views.
The Music Video which was shot by Nigel Stokies details a love story between a couple that is preparing to get married. We explore Soa traveling over to the woman’s family house to ask for her hand in marriage from the family, but they seemingly happen to be against it.
