DIAEGO is recommitting to its mission of championing HBCUs and promoting educational progress. Once again, DIAEGO will demonstrate that support at none other than the Annual Bayou Classic.
What Is The Bayou Classic?
As a New Orleans publication reported, the Bayou Classic started as a simple football game featuring an exciting competition between rival HBCU teams. However, it has undergone significant transformation over the years. And that expansion has extended beyond the confines of the game itself. Nowadays, attendees come not just for the football but also for a vibrant cultural experience. As the publication notes,
“After more than four decades, it has transformed into a festive celebration encompassing the entire city.”
The upcoming Classic will commemorate the 50th anniversary of this community event and citywide celebration.
Who Is DIAGEO
DIAGEO is a prominent global beverage leader, boasting a diverse portfolio of over 200 brands and a market presence in 180 countries. Beyond its routine business operations, the company actively engages in community initiatives. Since 2021, DIAEGO has consistently showcased its dedication to backing Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). During the initial commitment, then-president Debra Crew expressed pride in the partnership with these esteemed institutions, emphasizing the company’s role in creating a more equitable society by fostering opportunities for future leaders.
Demonstration Of Commitment
This endeavor extends beyond a singular initiative. Rather, it signifies a steadfast commitment to creating enduring and sustainable positive effects in underrepresented communities. In a significant display of their dedication, the organization has allocated over $11 million across 29 HBCUs, exemplifying a substantial and ongoing investment. The current partnership for this year serves as a tangible manifestation of their profound mission to champion HBCUs. Through innovative programs, they uphold their pledge to be at the forefront of promoting Black celebration and advancing education
2023 Bayou Classic
Scheduled for Saturday, November 25th, at Caesars Superdome, this year’s highly anticipated match-up will feature the Grambling State Tigers facing off against the Southern University Jaguars. The game kicks off at 1 pm. While the game promises to be a highlight, the festivities leading up to it are set to elevate the celebration. As reported by the New Orleans Publication, one such prelude to the gridiron showdown is the annual “Battle of the Bands” on Friday, November 24th. This showcase will feature the musical prowess of The Grambling “Marching Tigers” and the Southern “Human Jukebox.”
DIAGEO’S Presence At The 2023 Bayou Classic
DIAGEO’s impact will resonate throughout the celebration, spanning the pre-game festivities filled with live music, dynamic performances, and entertainment to an on-field check presentation, where both HBCUs will receive an additional $50,000. This substantial contribution aims to establish a permanent endowment fund for both schools, ultimately contributing to the financial aid of thousands of students.
DIAGEO’s ongoing commitment to community support deserves applause. Many organizations make pledges. However, the accurate measure of their meritious efforts lies in their ability to follow through and transform visionary promises into tangible reality.
The impact of initiatives like those undertaken by DIAGEO extends beyond the pledge. Their potential to positively affect even one individual through dedicated efforts makes the endeavor worthwhile. The genuine execution of such commitments demonstrates the company’s dedication to creating meaningful and lasting change within the communities it serves.
