Desiigner not required to register as sex offender amid false reports
This past week, it was revealed that Desiigner would have to register as a sex offender. This is as a result of the incident in April, where he exposed his private area during a flight back to the United States, from Japan. Furthermore, this was reportedly done in front of flight attendants, as he had to go on to be monitored for the rest of the flight.
Moreover, Desiigner went on to plead guilty to indecent exposure. This is part of a plea deal of two years of probation. However, his attorney is now revealing that the reports of having to register as a sex offender are false, according to People. This is due to this case being a federal misdemeanor.
“Many news outlets have incorrectly stated that he is required to register as an absolute condition of his probation. They are wrong. Since this was a federal misdemeanor, the sentencing judgement states that if the State of California or some other government entity requires that Mr. Selby must register as a sex offender, then he must. However, the parties in this case have come to the legal conclusion, after significant research and consultation with lawyers in California, that this misdemeanor conviction is not one that will cause Mr. Selby to have to register as a sex offender.”
Other conditions of Desiigner’s plea deal include 120 hours of community service, a $5000 fine, undergoing psychiatric evaluation and drug testing. Owning a firearm is also prohibited.
